This week’s featured local business is Chubby Baker
It’s an Asian-American donut bakery run from home for now, but they’ve announced a store front is coming soon and I will be there every weekend! I think SLC has a serious lack of above average donuts and Chubby Baker just changed alllllll that!
The flavors rotate weekly, so I was able to try the signature Coconut Cream with a Bruleed shell, Mango, Passionfruit, and Horchata Oreo. The passionfruit was my unexpected favorite, it’s SO TANGY and you get some crunch from the seeds for extra texture. The Mango was Shawn’s favorite and it was probably my 2nd. It was delicious but doesn’t pack the punch of that passionfruit.
We both loved the coconut cream filling, but weren’t fans of the creme brulee shell that was on it this week, and that’s just me – I hate creme brulee lol it was fun trying to crack it though.
The Horchata Oreo was our least favorite, it was just…weird. I tasted cinnamon and then a strange overly sweet flavor that just threw it all off. It didn’t taste like Oreos to me at all and Shawn said it tasted like SweetTarts to him.
Overall we loved the donuts and the shell itself is beautiful and delicious. We will definitely be back, and can’t wait to see the store front come to life!
